On behalf of our more than 200 members and Casuals, welcome to ILA Local 1771’s website, an integral part of an innovative scheduling, dispatching and communications application in the Port of Charleston. This website was built, not only to serve our members, but the Port community as well.

Local 1771, founded in Charleston, on June 9, 1950, provides Marine Clerks, Chief Clerks, Timekeepers, Checkers, Weighers, TIR Clerks, Tallymen and Inspectors for all stevedoring companies including cruise vessels doing business in one of the nation’s busiest sea ports. We are first, second, third, fourth, and even fifth generation Longshoremen. Each of us is extremely proud of the history and legacy we have inherited, and each of us share in the responsibility to build upon the legacy that was left by those who have gone on before.

Our Local is proud of its record of service to the shipping industry and in helping to build our local port into one of the most important and vital components of the overall business environment, not only in the Charleston area but in the entire state of South Carolina. This team of professionals is proud to hold the prestigious #2 World Rankings for speed and productivity in the unloading and loading of container ship vessels, along with our other partners in the port. We take great pride in these accomplishments; but, these accomplishments did not come easy. Unionism is not a heritage; membership is a privilege that must be continually protected and fought for by the dedicated men and women of the International Longshoremen’s Association.
